On the 8th June 2023 I received the heartbreaking news that Mum was being sent to Waikato Hospital with suspected Leukemia.

The following day 09.06.2023 they confirmed a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and started treatment right away. At the time they told us it was highly treatable but would need 4-5 rounds of aggressive chemo.

The following 6 months were brutal. Everything always changing, so much time spent in the hospital and just never quite knowing how things were going to play out but always believing Mum would be healed of this.

On the 22nd of December 2023 we received the devestating news that Mums cancer wasn’t responding to any of the treatment and was now terminal.

We were able to enjoy a few more months with Mum before she lost her battle on the 3rd of March 2024.
I am still in shock with just how much life can change in one short year.

The support my family received from the Lions Lodge in Hamilton and Cancer Society NZ were incredible so this July for the second time I will be participating in Dry July.
