Nutrition Tips to Make the Most of Dry July

Hump month is upon us folks and we all know what that means, Dry July is here. The one time of the year where a little healthy peer pressure is welcomed into the community, as Australians unite together to ‘step away from the Esky, mate’ and raise funds for adults living with cancer.

So if you’re going booze-free, what else can you do to maximise your detox and boost your nutritional intake for July?

Go Alkaline

Now is the perfect time to alkalize your body from the acidic environment that alcohol tends leave in its trail. Stock up on cucumber, kale, raw spinach, avocado, sprouts, lemons, Himalayan salt and of course green smoothies.

Supplementation

Healthy food is always first, but there are a few supplements that may help with detoxification from alcohol. A high quality b-complex vitamin is a good place to start, to give you added energy, and B vitamins are depleted when drinking booze. Chlorophyll in a glass of water twice a day will help with alkalizing your blood and St Mary’s Thistle tablet once a day will help with detoxing the liver to improve it functioning.

Herbal Teas

Tea comes in all flavours imaginable these days, so go treat yourself with the money you would usually spend on a night out on a china cup, tea pot and some decadent loose leaves - brew yourself into happiness.

Start a food diary

Okay, more importantly a drinks diary! Purely knowing you have to write down everything that goes into your pie hole this month, will make you highly accountable to any wavering self-control issues.

Make friends with water

You are going to need to drink it for the rest of your life, so now is as good a time as any to befriend the boring see-through stuff, which is actually the essence to wellbeing. Jazz it up a little, whether that be chucking in some frozen berries or a slice of fresh cucumber, or making it sparkle.

Nutritionists love good old tap water (filtered, of course), but we understand it’s a tad boring at times. So have a go at whipping up some of these awesome alcohol alternatives and give yourself a ‘superfood’ boost at the same time.
